Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I have built an extensive classroom library for my low-income 7th graders in my language arts classroom, buying thousands of books at my own expense. Because of shelving problems, I am unable to buy more books for students to read. I bought and put together particle board bookshelves 5 years ago, but they are almost to the point of deteriorating completely. In fact, one of them is being held together with duct tape, and every day I have to fix a shelf. The bookshelves are also too low to the ground, so students don't spend time looking for books. I need some quality bookshelves to house my books so students will find appropriate books, check them out, and improve their reading skills. Since everything in our classrooms has to be moved out each summer for floor waxing, it would be preferable if the bookshelves were on wheels. All my 85 students this year will benefit, as well as all my future students. I want to make it inviting for students to look for and choose books so they can learn to love reading!
