Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you imagine being in a place without any books? Most of my students enter my door without ever being read to or without ever getting to explore the wonders of books. This is the challenge my children face daily.
I teach 25 AWESOME kindergarten kids.
They come from a high-needs area. Over 98 percent of our school participates in the free or reduced lunch program. Most of my students have not been read to before they start school nor do they have any children's books at all in their homes. The majority have yet to experience great children's literature.
My Project
These wonderful books that I am requesting, such as Charlie the Ranch Dog, Llama Llama Home with Mama and Dream Big, Little Pig, will open doors for my students. These books will allow my students to have quality children's literature right at their finger tips. You never can have too many books for eager learners.
These books will be able to go home with the children so they can share their love of reading with their families. The books will be used to teach my students vocabulary, comprehension skills, to take accelerated reader quizzes and increase their reading fluency rates. These books will be used through out the school day during story-time, partner reading, shared reading, and silent reading. The children will also be able to take home these great stories to share with their families.
A donation to this project is putting books into little ones hands, hearts and homes.
When this happens only great things can occur. A donation to this project will help my students learn to read, enjoy reading, and be proud of their accomplishments in reading and allow them to share their accomplishments with their families.
