My Students
I have just been hired for my first year of teaching. I am so excited to be teaching in the second grade. This age group loves to explore books on all different levels and subject areas. My students come from a small rural community. Many do not have access to books at home. More than 50% of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. My goal is to enhance their love of reading by providing them with variety of books to choose from within my own room. Having my books displayed in an organized manner will allow my students to self-select books that are interesting to them, as well as provide them with some sense of responsibility and ownership over their reading.
My Project
I was so fortunate to have a large quantity of books donated to my classroom by various teachers and other staff members within my school community. I want to be able to display these books to attract my students and entice them to learn something new. I need several bins to organize my books so they can be placed within my classroom for easy access. Children work best in a classroom that is organized and colorful, as well as accessible. Some of the ways I will organize my books are; by genre, by author, and by topic/subject. I also look forward to having my students label some of the bins based on their interests!
