My Students
My school is located in Maryland. I teach in a middle school classroom. It's a pretty small school in comparison to many other schools in our ready.
How can I describe my students?
Bold. Outspoken. Inquisitive. Smart. Silly. Funny. Those are just some of the words that come to mind when I think of my students.
My students push themselves to succeed and learn new things on a daily basis. They persevere through adversities. I absolutely love my students, and I can't wait to see what positive things they contribute to the world.
My Project
Children need and deserve books that are mirrors, that allow them to see themselves and their experiences, windows that they can look through to see other worlds, and sliding doors that allow them to enter other worlds. Your donation will help my students get the additional diverse books for students to read daily during our independent reading time.
These books definitely provide mirrors and windows for students; these books will also help with empathy for people different from them.
These particular books are high interest and the plots feature a variety of characters from diverse backgrounds so that each and every student can see characters and plots that mirror their experiences and lives. This project is geared to help spread the love of literature, especially in a more diverse way. Plus, students are actually requesting more books; even though school has just started.
