My students need 7 collections of books, like a set of Judy Moody titles, Junie B. Jones, and more, so they can continue to develop comprehension skills. They love books and browsing in our classroom library. Help them become lifelong readers!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” -Frederick Douglass
I want my students to have endless options in choosing books, so that options for their futures are endless.
In my classroom we are learning what it means to be college bound and how reading is an essential part to college. However, the variety of books at their level in my classroom is lacking.
My students are amazing. They are energetic, dedicated students, and avid readers as long as they have the right book! They live in a low socio-economic area, and our school is a Title One school, which means that the majority of our students (in our case, more than 90%) receive free lunch because of their family's income.
Our school is also a Spanish bilingual school. All of my students are native Spanish speakers and work diligently to develop their Spanish and English Language skills. Third grade is their first year where the shift from Spanish to English occurs. My students come in at varying reading levels.
My Project
I want my students to have the options they need to continue their love for reading and learning. Third graders want to read chapter books because they want to be challenged. These books include Henry and Mudge, Junie B. Jones, Nancy Drew and others. Our big goal is to increase their reading levels one entire point. In order to do this the students need a variety of books available in our classroom library. They also need books in all their different levels so all students can have access and make use of the library.
Receiving these books will make reading more enjoyable for my students.
When they have the opportunity to choose something they really want to read, they develop a sense of ownership for their reading development and are truly invested in their learning. My students love to read when they find the right book but often struggle to find something they want to read at their reading level.
With this set of books, my students will have options! Each and every one of them deserves a good book!
