The kids at my school come to school each and every day energized and ready to learn. We are located in the great state of Nebraska. Our school is not a Title I school, so funding for extra supplies is not in the budget. There are students with family serving in the military, students who are English Language Learners, and many more.
The students love to learn using books they can by themselves!
They love to have books that they can read at their independent level. We need books at those levels in the classroom.
Kindergarten is an important year of school for the children.
It is the first year they are working together as a team, so every child can succeed!
My Project
My kindergarten students work hard each and every day at school to become better readers. We need guided reading books at the students' independent level to practice the reading skills we are working hard to master.
The books about animals in mud, cubs, insects, turtles, and insects keeping safe provide us with fiction and nonfiction books to practice our independent reading while learning new decoding strategies and strengthen our comprehension abilities.
These books also correlate into our science curriculum that we learn throughout the year in kindergarten. We will compare and contrast the different types of books while allowing us to critically think about what each book helps us to learn.
