Mrs. Santulli from Brooklyn NY is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a variety new and interesting books to help them build the language needed to express their feelings.

I am a kindergarten teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. I work in Brooklyn, New York in a self-contained auditory/oral classroom.
The majority of my students were late diagnosed with hearing loss which affects their ability to communicate.
Many of my students are coming to kindergarten as first time hearing aid users and have had no early intervention to develop language and foundational skills essential for kindergarten.
In school, the students are taught using an auditory/oral approach which teaches the children to use hearing and speech to develop spoken language for communication and learning. Due to the fact that they were late identified as being deaf/hard of hearing (some students at close to 4 years old) they have an extremely limited vocabulary and struggle to communicate.
In addition to their physical, emotional, and learning challenges, many of my students live in poverty. My students often lack access to resources at home; therefore we would like to provide opportunities and the tools necessary for them to learn and be successful at our school.
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy! I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind.
My students often struggle to express themselves and their feelings so having books that focus on specific feelings will support their socio-emotional development as well as their language and ability to express themselves.
My students demonstrate astonishing interest when they read books with great visuals and are motivated to communicate about what they see. This project will only help enrich their experiences.
