Help me give my students & their parents books that share a positive message with characters that resemble them and their community. Each story promotes self-worthiness and confidence.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"We have a powerful potential in out youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends." - Mary McLeod Bethune
Our students are AWESOME!
The goal for all of us this year is to level up and accelerate excellence! Through learning gains and affirmations of worth, our students are living into a growth mindset - better every day.
Our school community is leveling up, accelerating excellence! Our K-8 center welcomes & nurtures students from the Liberty City area in Miami, Florida. We are a Title 1 school with over 400 students.
My Project
Each book on the list features characters that resemble the students at our school. All of the stories address different aspects of life that students may encounter with a positive message. My hope is that the stories and the illustrations in each book will captivate both the readers and the listeners.
Reading stories with characters that resemble the reader and the listener open the imagination to new possibilities.
For the month of February, students (middle school), parents and community members are invited to come into our elementary classrooms to read the books on our list. This encourages parent involvement, community engagement, and student literacy skills.
