Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

This year I will be working with first grade students that are struggling readers. Since many of them come from homes with low incomes they do not have books at home that they can read. I would like to provide each student with books,on their level, that they can take home to read on a regular basis. Reading books on their specific level helps them to build fluency and comprehension, as well as develop a joy for reading. I feel that a take home program such as this will help these students become successful readers.
