Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach 5th grade in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Last year, most of the teachers received new classroom libraries but because I was the last fifth grade teacher to be added, I was only given a partial library and the choices of books available in my classroom are fairly limited. It is my second year teaching and one goal I have is to promote a love of reading in my students. I want them to see the classroom library as a place where they can escape and explore new worlds through books. I want them to be able to read independently everyday both in the classroom and at home and always have a place to come and find a "just right" book for themselves. An addition of new paperbacks from Scholastic will help make this happen.
