Books to Motivate Young Readers, Our Future Leaders

Help me give my students hundreds of books to keep them motivated to read!

My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students are just discovering the joy in reading, and we need more books both fiction and nonfiction that are high interest to them and not falling apart.

On the surface, my students may seem alike, but get to know them, and you see incredible differences.

My 90 fifth grade students range in reading level from second grade to eighth grade. They come from different economic, cultural, and family backgrounds. These students all want to do their best and learn. They are excited about being at school and learning.

One thing my students have in common is their love for reading and sharing stories. Like most classrooms, my students range in reading abilities. Many of my students are just discovering the joy of reading, while others devour books by the week. They all know being a good reader is key to their success in school and life. They all want to become better, stronger readers.

My Project

With these new fiction and nonfiction books, my students will develop the skills necessary to meet the rigorous English Language Arts Standards listed in the Common Core. Students will have enough books available to meet the volume of reading required to acquire these skills. They will use these books to read for information, become more knowledgeable on a variety of topics, and to learn the important reading skills of main idea, synthesis of information, comparing and contrasting, understanding, cause and effect, story elements, and more. Most importantly, these books will continue to motivate my students to practice their newfound reading skills. They will continue to build their reading life and continue on their path to becoming lifelong readers and learners.

The books you donate to my class will definitely make a difference in helping my students learn to read.

These books will update our classroom library with high interest books. By donating to my project, you will be putting books into the hands of my 90 students. You will be impacting their literacy development, which is at the core of being successful in school and life. Thank you DonorsChoose.org and Chevron Fuel Our School for this opportunity.
