Help me give my students the books that meet them on their level; it is a struggle to find engaging books that are on the 5th grade content for science and social studies with lower level readers.
We are a small rural school in northeast Georgia. We are a Title I community school that seeks to provide our students with learning opportunities they might not otherwise have the chance to participate in! I love seeing the enthusiasm in my 5th graders.
My student come to school with the weight of the world on their shoulders and heart full of love to give.
They are excited about learning, have many questions, and want to learn as much as they can. Many of our students enjoy our classroom reading block. My 5th-grade class needs an updated academic library that is interesting, engaging, and most importantly, with materials that meet the students where they are.
My Project
The materials will allow me to meet the students on their individual levels. I have a hard time finding lower level student books to put in their hands to use across the curriculum to integrate science and social studies into reading on topics such as Babe Ruth, Henry Ford, and other important people from the 1920's.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful ways to enhance the love for reading.
I will be able to use the books to help students gain an understanding of the 5th-grade content as well as build and grow their reading ability.
