Books to Make Us Better Humans

Help me give my students three sets of books that can help deepen our emotional intelligence, confront our own biases, and fight racism within society.

My Students

In our class, we strive to make everyone feel cared for and able to be risk-takers. Every student has strengths and ideas to share to help in some way. The students in my class find the most joy in things we can be excited about together. They care about each other and love contributing to things that they know others can learn by.

My class loves and includes everyone.

My class consists of 35 amazing students. Of those, three receive resource services, two are in speech, one lost a parent this year, another has a parent with extreme health concerns, and they all have their own individual hardships and successes. They all do their personal best to contribute to our classroom community while pushing each other to grow.

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the social and emotional well being of the students in my classroom. My classroom read-aloud is a conversation rich piece of learning where we talk about the characters and relate it to our own lives! Every student book that is read in my classroom is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read and grow. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind, and in picked because they can be applied to our everyday situations.

With these new books, my students will be exposed to thoughts and ideas to help them build compassion and understanding for others.

The best way to increase empathy is to be exposed to others' situations, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word and their own emotions and interactions with others.
