This Third grade classroom is a diverse group of enthusiastic learners ready to take on the challenge of a new grade. As the reading consultant, I have had the opportunity to work with many of these students throughout the last three years and to celebrate their growth and achievement. Imagine seeing the student who was just reading Biscuit books at the beginning of last year now reading The Magic Tree House!
As students grow and change so must the books that they read.
Series books will provide the students with they texts they need to continue on the exciting journey to becoming life long readers!
As they build their reading lives, students are encouraged to bring books from school home to read in their favorite reading spots. Once back at school, students are given the opportunity to share their thoughts about reading through conversations with peers and writing in their writers notebooks. This is an extra special opportunity for these students because many will say that they don't have books at home.
Do you remember your first book series? For me it was Dick and Jane! Students entering third grade need access to fiction books from series so that they can experience the unforgettable adventures of characters who will become like best friends.
We are requesting series books including Junie B.
Jones, Henry and Mudge, and Jack and Annie from the Magic Tree house series! These books are a bridge between picture books and novels providing readers with accessible text and engaging plots. There's nothing more rewarding than glancing up from the small group table during read to self to see students with heads bowed lost in books! Student have a daily opportunity to read to self with self-selected texts. This project will provide access to the high interest texts students crave.
