I am the K-2 Title One reading teacher in a low income southwest Missouri school district. I work with approximately 30 students, either individually or in small groups.
I love working with the youngest struggling readers who usually still have the "love of learning".
Their potential for learning can only go up if I can help them see the relevance of how learning to read is a vital life-long skill.
I do a variety of reading assessments to help guide my instruction and also collaborate with the classroom teachers. I strive to use many multi-sensory strategies to address my students' many learning needs.
My Project
My students will read the books (A Dollar For Penny, A Chair for My Mother, Little Critter:Just Saving My Money, Ella Earns Her Own Money and other books) that we get to help them learn how to save, make and spend money. Many students in today society are not exposed to how we can help ourselves be better citizens. Young children can learn at a young age that everything we want is not everything we need.
Reading children's books is one way to expose children to the importance of financial literacy and how their decisions impact them and others around them.
After we read these books together in class and have discussions we will do some play acting in my classroom to extend their learning.
