My school has an amazing mix of cultures that give a very global feel to our hallways and classrooms. Our learning community has a variety of learning levels and English proficiency levels throughout each classroom. We have dedicated, hardworking parents and community members who truly want success for each and every student.
Our students are innovative and creative individuals who are willing to think outside the box to show academic growth.
They approach challenges with a positive attitude and are continually supporting each other in their academic endeavors. Our students are respectful of each other's differences, and embrace the diversity around them.
My Project
We LOVE new books. They transport us to new worlds. They open our eyes to the world we live in. They let us see ourselves. Books are the key to growing children who are secure in themselves, but also flexible and empathetic to others. Already this year there has been so many amazing books published.
Students need texts that show characters like them dealing with real life things and persevering.
These books will be available to students during our independent reading time, but will also be used as whole class read alouds and mentor texts. "Snow Sisters" is a perfect mentor for a discussion on how two people can see the same thing in a different way. "Mae Among the Stars" tells the story of African American astronaut Mae Jemison.
