My Students
I teach an amazing group of second grade dual language learners. We are a culturally diverse school. Most of the students are English Language Learners. Despite their challenges, they are very inquisitive and eager to learn.
My school is a Title I school, which means most students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
We strive to meet all of their needs as they strive for academic excellence. Their tenacity to learn encourages me to create a fun learning environment so they are actively engaged in learning every day.
My Project
Covid-19 has changed the way students learn. In the past students would borrow books from our library to read at home. To prevent the spread of COVID-19 students can't share books at school so most books read are digital.
Reading will help bring calm and focus in this rapidly changing world while developing their imagination.
My students need books to exercise their brains. Did you know that reading also benefits mental health by bringing brains to a similar state to mediation? Reading helps improve mental health.
Some of my students don't have access to physical books. I want to make sure that all of my students have interesting books that they can hold and read without having to connect to the internet all day. Even though they may not be able to go out into the world because of the pandemic, books will teach them about the world around them. Reading is fun and is a great way to spend time with family.
Help me give my students fun books that they can read at home.
