I work at a title I school in Anderson, South Carolina. We are 100% dedicated to developing critical thinkers but we are also 100% poverty stricken, with 100% of our students on free or reduced lunch. Students in my classroom need an extra push to be engaged in reading. This is the basis for everything else in their life and they don't really see the importance in reading.
My classroom is full of students who can reach their maximum potential with support and the right books.
I firmly believe that the future of South Carolina and maybe the nation sits in my classroom. Now we have to make it happen.
My Project
I have several students that hate to read. They are disengaged in the current book selection that is present in my classroom library. It is my hope that I can get this project fully funded in no time so that these diverse books can get in the hands of these readers who can connect to the characters in these new books.
I want my students to be able to relate to the people they are reading about and truly be engaged in their reading.
I want these books to foster a love for reading for these reluctant readers and grow them. Grow them in their love for reading, their comprehension skills, and as people.
