My students need books that they find interesting. My current library is so old and bland. It was handed down and scraped together because I’m a first year teacher.
I have a group of kindergarten learners who love having something to look forward to!
They love our daily reading groups and having the chance to take books home to Mom and dad to show them!
These students are absolutely wonderful and so easy to excite and engage when we have fun and exciting materials.
I have a group of kindergarteners with the objective to read before the end of the year. The students are at very different ability levels, but all want to constantly try new books once they accomplish a new skill.
My Project
Hello friends! Currently my classroom library is really sad! It's been pieced together with handydowns and books I’ve found at garage sales. I am a first year teacher and I need some exciting material for my readers to engage and excite them (this is the time in school where they are learning to read). I really want to provide a positive learning environment for my students, but it's hard when you're starting off with nothing, and don't have all the funds needed to buy the amount of books for a Kindergarten class to get excited.
My students would love to try new books that interest them, with topics that are relevant and impactful, and unfortunately I simply don’t have the funds to support this kind of purchase.
I'm so passionate about this project because overwhelming evidence indicates that children read more and better when they have more access to books (Elley, 1989; Krashen, 1999; McQuillian, 1998). The classroom library, where books are most easily accessible to all children in the classroom, plays a vital role in providing children immediate access to books. Bissett (1969) found that children in classrooms with book collections read 50 percent more than did children without.
I would also love new books to read aloud in order to teach life skills and help my students contemplate decisions and things life may challenge them with, like the books by Max Lucado or Please Mr. Panda.
