Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of 23 unique young learners ages 8-9. They are predominantly Latino/a students and very proud of it. Their smiles are always bright with zest. I love that we celebrate culture and embrace it. They are full of amazing energy and curiosity for learning.
On a daily basis, I see their enthusiasm for learning and it continuously encourages me.
They are great inquirers, always wanting to know more and asking questions. They embody the character trait of grit every day. That is something that we work on daily to improve. I want to see this trait build even when they leave my classroom.
My group of students are caring, proud, and great thinkers. I am excited to continue and grow their brains!
My Project
My scholars love to read and get captivated by many different subjects quickly. I made sure to pick books that are full of diversity so they can learn about their culture and be proud of who they are. They love to discuss books and I love giving books a voice by making it fun when I read aloud to them. There are so many ways that this will improve their reading levels. Good readers also have a great chance to become great writers.
Reading is crucial to their learning and I want my scholars to love what they read.
I want them to be able to have fun books that will improve their reading comprehension and fluency. By having these books they will have a plethora of books to choose from. This will make learning an engaging part of our day. I plan to teach them about Latinas such as Frida Khalo and Sonia Sotomayor, civil rights activists, and how important it is to keep on reaching for the stars. They will also be reading these on their own to discover the messages that they can pull from each book such as being brave, having grit, and finding their identity.
