Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are inquisitive, engaging fifth graders and our classroom is a warm and welcoming community of learners. They are curious students who love to ask questions and extend their learning. These amazing young people bring their cultural backgrounds into our class of learners to create a diverse classroom community.
Our 3rd through 8th graders and their families choose to attend this school to be a part of our wonderful, small school learning environment.
I teach at a public magnet school with less than 400 students in 3rd-8th grades, which provides a unique opportunity for upper elementary and middle school students to share the same campus and school community. As a school of choice instead of a neighborhood zoned school, we have students enrolled from throughout the district's different school zones.
My Project
I am requesting several popular book titles from series I know my students love so that I can continue encouraging their interest in reading. I want to provide access to books of their choosing even when they are not in school. Some of the titles are from the popular Who Was, Magic Tree House, My Weird School, and Stink book series.
The books in this project will be for students to keep and call their very own, developing their own personal collection of books at home.
In addition to nurturing a love of reading at school through books in our classroom and school libraries, I want to provide reading opportunities at home and help students learn to love and value books of their own. This project will allow all of my students to choose books to take and keep prior to spring and summer breaks--one book before spring break and two before summer break.
