This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing! They never want to stop learning. Oftentimes middle school students get caught up in their middle school lives and forget what they're in school to do, but not mine. These young men and women are starving to learn at all hours of the day.
My students live in a high poverty area in the North End of the city of Hartford and attend their neighborhood school.
Part of what makes my students so amazing is the diversity in backgrounds and cultures that they bring to the learning environment. My students love to learn!
My Project
My students deserve the opportunity to have options and choice in their independent reading books. This year they are very excited to have the opportunity to choose from a variety of brand new books. However, our classroom library only has one copy of each book available.
My students are eager as ever to become independent readers and learners.
We have decided to set up mini book clubs within the class in order to allow students to independently engage with interesting novels of their own choosing. These extra books will give every student an equal opportunity to feed their love of learning.
