Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am fortunate enough to teach really amazing kids. They are kind, hard working, and truly enjoy learning. The students and I have created a community of learners by getting to know each other through writing and math activities. The students value the diversity in our classroom. My students also understand the power of hard work and a positive growth mindset.
Learning is a lifelong skill.
My students are curious about the world around them. They ask good questions, set a path for knowledge, and then engage in collaborative learning with peers. They are eager to become civic minded leaders who engage in the community around them.
My Project
My students need social justice themed books to engage in important discussions about race, gender, equity, and an understanding of diverse perspectives. The students will use the books to participate in a book study with colleagues in other 6th grade classes. Through educational technology tools, the students will read, reflect, write, and discuss important prompts inspired by the young adult novels.
Social justice books clubs will help to build an understanding and appreciation for diverse and divergent thinking.
After reviewing book trailers and reading book summaries, my students have hand selected these titles and are motivated to read and study them.
