Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students do not have internet access. I have provided them with hard copies of worksheets and projects that they can do and create with material that students have at home. I have been told by families that they do not have books nor they read in English well enough to read with their children.
I want to give them the peace of mind that these families need and deserve.
I want to bring some joy by giving them some books that the students can enjoy reading. Reading involves describing what they see, hear, or think of what is happening in the story.
Solidarity to these families is what comes to my mind. I want to be with them, not physically but spiritually. I know how it feels not to have what we need to do school work at home. I want to help these families by giving them books to read and learn.
My Project
I have received calls from parents who are worried and frustrated because they can not help their children with homework. I have explained to them that sitting with their kids and discussing books will help their children with reading skills and positive thinking.
These books will give parents the tools they needs to do reading at home with their kids.
I talk with moms and dads and giving them ideas on how to do reading with their kids even if they do not speak English. Use your child's imagination by describing what they see, hear, or predict what is happening in the pages. These skills will teach the children observation skills. These observation skills will be used when doing science, math, and reading.
Foster their imagination by describing what they see. These material will make a difference in students' learning from home.
