My Students

My 8th graders are a diverse group of young people. This convergence of culturally diverse backgrounds leads to exciting discussions and written expressions in our class. They have many varied interest and are curious about many topics.

As members of the first class of rising 9th graders from our school, they are excited to see what experiences high school will bring.

Being able to add to their curiosity and interest daily is one of the things I love the most about working with middle schoolers.

My Project

Although my students are from diverse backgrounds, many of our required text don't portray their experiences. So, they are not inclined to read them or even to read independently. This project will help me provide books in which they can see themselves or have topics that will entice them to read.

Additionally, because of the events of the last 2 years, many of them are behind academically.

Thus reading on-level text is a challenge. Some of the books requested will provide material that they are able to read at their level. Thank you for contributing to our class.
