This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Great story from 2/24/20. Student of the month for February just finished running 26 miles for our marathon madness event. A peer that would finish behind her but still have the 26 miles is going to finish a lap behind her. Without skipping a beat she rallies the entire class to love on her peer/competitor who would finish 1 minute after she did. The only praise she got was me telling her that she finished 26 and a good job (3 seconds). She didn't seek to gain status as a third grader that beat the entire class including 4th graders or only the second student in the entire school to accomplish this, she jumped to lift someone else.
That is my class in a nutshell; great individuals, who think of others often before themselves.
These are the future leaders of my community and I find myself very fortunate to be allowed to teach these amazing individuals.
My Project
For the next set of books I have chosen a set by an amazing author, Alane Adams. I have personally read through the first 2 books of this series and they don't disappoint.
Witches and mythical stuff will fill my children's imagination and help the creative juices flow.
It is so hard to find books that I think my students will love and I think I have. Many of my kids read at low grade levels so finding engaging books can be hard. Every book starts off at a class pace and then once I hook them I set them on their own to read independently. It works almost every time as long as its a good book.
In case your curious here are the next 2 projects. I had a total of 5 projects but the most amazing non-profit has graciously sent me 23 copies of the book completing my class set. All of these are great books that I know that my kids will love.
