Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Over half of my students qualify for our free school lunch program. Many live in migrant apartment housing. Several of my students' families work in the fields or do farm work as their job.
All of my students are learning two languages, both Spanish and English.
They are being taught daily in both languages.
All of my students are eager to learn. Their parents want them to work hard in school and make a better life for themselves so that they do not have to follow in their footsteps and do farm work.
My Project
My students need books that help teach grade level common core learning standards. I have new students this year who was adopted from Korea. Adding some books from her native culture will help her feel more confident and comfortable and allow her to show others about where she is from. Animals, parts of speech, telling time and books from diverse cultures will help my students broaden and gain perspective about the world around them as well as assist with required learning.
Books will engage students and help them with reports that they will be completing at this grade level!
