My students need the Amelia Bedelia series because I current don't have reading levels for 1 and 2, in my library, and I need the other books, because they are different genres.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom is introducing new lessons, independent classwork, centers, and reading around the room. Reading around the room allows my students time to read a book that is on their reading level. My goal, for my students, is to be reading independently at level 3.0, or higher.
My campus is a title school, with low income families, and all students receive free breakfast/lunch.
My classroom consist of 22 second-graders that are 7-8 years old. My kids are wanting to learn, but come to school with many distractions and little home support. Some students wake themselves up, attempt to complete homework independently, and feed themselves. My school provides mentors and extra support, to assist what our students are faced with. I try and create a classroom that has a positive learning environment with engaging lessons, respectful students, and students who feel safe.
My Project
If these books are purchased, it will help me provide my students with a variety of genres and age appropriate reading levels, that I currently do not have in my classroom library. At the beginning of the school year, I determine each child's reading level. I then determine their Accelerated Reading level for library books (ex: 2.1 2nd grade 1st month). My students can then pick books out that are their reading level. When students complete their classwork, they can go read anywhere around the room that they feel comfortable, like in the library area, near me, etc. Once students complete their books, they write a summary including characters, plot, problem, and the solution. This is a way I have students incorporate writing. If a student can recall events in their books, they comprehended what they read. They then take an A.R. test on the computer. If they receive an A, I bump their level and if not they remain until they are successful. This allows me to assist all my students' different reading levels, low through high.
Funding of this proposal will improve my classroom, because it will provide my struggling readers with reading books that are their level.
It will also help the entire class, because I don't have certain genres in my classroom library, including folktales, nonfiction, etc. These books will change the lives of my students, because our class goes to the school library every 6 days. If my students run out of books they have to wait. This is why I try to provide my students with books, in my classroom library, so they can have a variety to read.
