Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a small town with a population of approximately 8,000. The school district strives to provide a quality education for all its students with a wide range of programs, and a talented staff dedicated to to the needs of its students. The district serves more than 1,300 students in grades TK-8.
During the last academic school year, our site shifted to an intermediate school site and we now serve grades 5-8 on the school campus.
We are constantly growing and we currently have just under 600 students on campus this year.
Our school is committed to providing a strong instructional program for all students to ensure excellence in education. One of the main goals for our site is to create a college-going culture and mindset that builds the expectation that all students—not just the best students succeed at college.
My Project
These books will support all students in understanding that there are many ways to be a kid! Students need to see themselves and their friends in the spaces they inhabit. Providing a print-rich environment that represents all kinds of kids will help create empathy and understanding.
We have a diverse community and books are one way to make our classrooms and library more inclusive spaces for everyone.
Your donation will ensure there are gender diverse books and culturally diverse books in my classroom and curriculum to use for instruction! Teachers will also be able to read these books further normalize our beautifully diverse community.
