Help me give my students classroom supplies (like clipboards and paint), books featuring girls in science (Ada Twist, Scientist!), games to help engage them in learning, and ottomans to replace the broken ones they sit on every day!
My name is Casey and I teach in a 3rd grade Special Ed co-teach classroom. That means that several of my babies come with labels attached to them, but that just means that we know how to work really extra hard at learning! My students love math, memes, and listening to Taylor Swift songs on repeat while they work. They struggle with organization but make up for it by being kind and thoughtful to those that struggle a little more than others in our room.
My babies are as loud and funny and kind and messy as they are diverse; I promise, if you met us, you'd fall in love!
Because there are so many students in my class with ADD or ADHD or autism or whatever other labels that have been assigned to them, our classroom tends to move very quickly and can be a little bit noisy, but it's ok because we need that movement to help us learn. They love technology, reading books about other cultures, building things in science, and challenging me to dance-offs any chance they get.
My Project
There are three basic sections to my project: books, items for engagement, and stuff that's broken in my classroom that need to be replaced. New books featuring people who are unique and different will infuse life into my classroom library and help my students learn empathy and to value the diversity in others, such Iggy Peck, Architect, a book about a girl who wants to be an architect, or the class set of Wonder, a book about a boy with a facial deformity, that I requested. Items such as the game wheel or buzzers are used to engage my students in learning and make them want to come to my classroom because they know it'll be fun for them! I requested items like new clipboards and storage ottomans because I only have four clipboards in my class of 24 students and some of them are broken. New storage ottomans are to replace the broken ottomans students currently have to sit in for flexible seating.
The students in my classroom make the very best of the supplies, books, and materials they currently have, but by donating to this project, you will inject new life into their learning!
