My students are enthusiastic, curious, and driven! Our classroom strives to be equally as bright and inclusive for all learners. Someone once wrote, “What greater joy can a teacher feel than to witness a child’s success?” I want to instill the love of learning in my students as we explore reading, writing, mathematics, science and with the Common Core curriculum at the center of it all.
My students are eager and hands-on learners who take pride in each other’s academic success!
For many of my students, kindergarten is their first year in a classroom environment. A majority of them also qualify for free/reduced-price lunch, are English Language Learners, and/or have Individualized Education Plans. That is why it is essential that they love learning to set a precedent for the rest of their academic careers. We are learning how to become lifelong readers and writers through engaging lessons with support from books, guest speakers, realia, field trips, and technology.
My Project
These books will enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. They can complete work there, read independently and with a book stuffie! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. However, many of the books in my library are dated, and each student should have access to current books! All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. As students gain more independence, I will give them agency in choosing books, which will help them to enjoy independent reading time. My students are also learning how to be responsible, so having designated book bins for these new books is a must! As we are moving into flexible seating, we will also need clipboards to use as a flat surface so we can write freely around the classroom!
With these new books, my students will be able to read independently at their own grade level and build independence by putting them back in bins.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will help my students grow stronger in reading. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word!
