My Students
I have the pleasure of teaching a third grade class. Many of these students were my reading buddies in transitional kindergarten(tk) so there is a unique bond we have.
My students come from low income families that value their child's education but can not afford to always give them the little extras. The parents appreciate when I am able to let their child experience those extras in an educational way. I also believe that childhood is a precious time and if you can learn while enjoying yourself - that is priceless.
My Project
Third grade is when most students want to start reading chapter books. Unfortunately, some are not always ready for the longer chapter books. They want to do more reading but aren't quite ready for the more word intense pages. Then I also have students who are ready to read books above grade level. Satisfying both groups sometimes is difficult.
These are books that the students themselves requested. I have a policy in my room, if my students want a book, I will do my best to find it and get it in their hands. They think it's great that they actually have a voice in what they can read.
My goal is to get the students to leave my room with a love of reading. With your support, I'm sure we can accomplish this!
