Our urban Portland, Oregon school has a Spanish Immersion program and boasts a diverse student body. Students bring different experiences and perspectives to the table which provides a rich learning environment.
Our students are a passionate group of learners who show up every day eager to expand their knowledge and ready to fight for what's right in the world.
As middle schoolers, they are experiencing a time of enormous growth developmentally, intellectually, and emotionally. This growth shows up as an increased ability to think critically, feel empathy, and take action.
My Project
Our middle schoolers have had a rough year and a half. No one knows yet what the full impact being at home has had on developing and maintaining reading skills. We know that reading for pleasure helps improve reading skills and that good reading skills in middle school are a predictor of success in high school.
Many of our most popular books need to be replaced.
Some because they have been lost, and others because they have been "well-loved." By donating to my project not only will you help us replace those well-loved books, but we will also be able to fill the holes where books are missing in some of our series! The students will appreciate the books, and teachers in all subjects will appreciate that students are better readers.
