Reading for a better future! I teach a multi-age classroom of 5 and 6 year olds. Many students come into my classroom with little knowledge of how to read let alone how to hold a book.

Several of my students cannot read or are not motivated to read by themselves, however they love listening to someone read to them.

Having books on cd will allow my students to be engaged in reading for a sustained period of time. I am asking for various books on cd- many about Curious George and even a set by Dr. Seuss! Instead of staring with bored eyes at a book during reading time they will be able to get lost in a book and enjoy reading time. Listening to reading is a major literacy component at this age level. As a teacher I need time to pull small groups so I can meet the needs of my students. While I am doing that I need my other students to be engaged in meaningful learning. Listening to books on tape will meet that need.
