Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I work as a traveling music specialist for the Mobile County Public School System, and I serve four schools a year. I am privileged to serve a diverse group of multicultural students that range in age from PreK to 5th grade. Building a print-rich classroom library that meets the needs of the standards that I must teach, as well as sparks the interests of all the students that I serve, takes time and research.I have selected not only musicians, but also leaders in STEM, athletes, a leader from our state, and other books about learning to be comfortable the way you are.

Women in History Month begins soon, and I would like to add more books at various age levels, PreK on up, that will inspire and motivate my young scholars.

Having daily access to these wonderful resources will make it easier for students to pick up a book and read, instead of waiting for open circulation time in the library. We will also have our books available for quick referencing during our lessons so that we can expound upon those teachable moments that occur regularly.
