My Students

Imagine being told that the only way to get your reading level up is to read, but when you get to class there are not many books.

I teach 10th grade at a very high poverty school.

Many of my students will be the first in their family to graduate from high school and go to college. I teach at a high poverty school and not many materials are allotted to us. As their teacher, I am doing my best to get their reading level up so they can pass the FSA (a test they have to pass for graduation). Since the test is set on a 10th-grade reading level and my students are around 6th or 7th, they are in need of books.

My Project

These three books have been flying off the shelf. Murder in 4th Hour , Go ask Alice and Dear Martin are the three popular books I am trying to get for my students. Our school only has one copy of both and the waiting list is all the way to the end of the year. I have never seen low level students so excited to read. By having these in my classroom I will be able to give the joy of reading to all my students.

My Students need these class sets.

Many will not take a book home to read but after reading as a class they will be begging for other books to take home. Your gift will open up the door to showing kids that reading can be fun and it should be with the right book.
