Books Needed for Inner-City Spanish Immersion Elementary
My students need a variety of children's books, including the Spanish Paperback Classics Library, to read during story time and Monday morning reading time with their family members.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As inner city children who often see their parents working multiple jobs, the ability to learn from (while escaping into) a book is priceless.
My students and their parents come from a variety of backgrounds.
Some speak only Spanish, some only English, and some are practicing bilingual. Nearly all of my students come from lower income backgrounds, with almost 95% on free or reduced lunch. We are in a public school in CA, and we are a Spanish Immersion school - we spend most of the Kinder day working in Spanish (85%) with only some English (15%). For our reading assignments, we concentrate on Spanish books.
My Project
We read frequently in the class, and on Monday mornings we read as a family, with the parents and children reading together. Some of these books are replacements for our existing copies of the "classics" (such as Curious George, or Jorge el curioso) books that are currently falling apart. I have also included some bilingual books, for those parents that either don't speak Spanish or for those parents that are learning English, for use during family reading time.
Having access to second-hand Spanish books has been a challenge for us.
We are able to stock our English section of the library largely with second-hand or used books. We simply don't have that same luxury when it comes to Spanish language books, yet we need to restock our library and replace books that are either falling apart or have been lost. Thanks!
