Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 8th graders who are eager to learn from the Los Angeles Harbor area. We serve about 1,500 students each year and are looking forward to growing our numbers in the next few years. We offer an amazing STEAM program to help inspire and motivate students to stay in school. In addition, our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 70% of our students receiving free lunch. We have an amazing staff at our school who are truly dedicated to improving the lives of our students in every way possible.
My Project
Imagine a classroom where students are motivated to read new and interesting books. Many children cannot envision that because they haven't developed a positive relationship with reading. This project would help motivate students to love reading. My classroom library consists of books that have been passed down and are completely torn up-- not in the best conditions. Therefore, I am hoping to create a diverse classroom library that matches my student population as a way create new learning experiences and develop a self to world connection.
Every morning students are expected to read their AR book but most of my students don't a book.
