I am a 6th-grade teacher in a school with limited resources. My school is in an urban environment where all my students qualify for and receive free breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily. Most of my students are considered low-income. Some of my students come from all around the world and are learning English.
Despite these financial obstacles and hardships, my students work very hard and are eager to learn.
I want my students to feel successful at all times.
There are so many things that we can use in the classroom that will aid all students, yet as teachers in a low-income district, we don't have access to them.
I am currently transitioning from an all-inclusive 6th-grade classroom to teaching 75 6th graders ELA only. I am so incredibly excited that I have been given the opportunity to share my passion for reading with the entire 6th-grade class at our elementary school.
Every year, students come to me as reluctant readers.
With a little persuasion and a killer library- I am hopeful that they leave me feeling much more confident in their reading capabilities.
I am always hoping to expand my library to include books that my kids ask for, as well as genres that they are learning to love. Thanks to this incredible community, I am hopeful that I can add even more incredible books to my collection!
