My Students
Located in Brooklyn Park, MN, my school serves a population comprised of primarily black and brown students. We serve a 98% student population from a rich mixture of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Students who qualify for free lunch is at 84%. Additionally, we are now a STEAM Magnet school! Great opportunities are ahead for our scholars!
I work with thoughtful, curious, and eager to learn 4th grade students.
They work hard to overcome academic, social, and societal obstacles each and every day! I'm proud to be their teacher.
My Project
My students deserve diverse children's literature, in which the characters and stories provide mirrors to their lives and windows into the rest of the world. Motivational and encouraging stories that feature black and brown people will allow my students to connect their educational experience to their lived experiences in everyday life. They can be seen, recognized, and affirmed through a simple equity based read aloud in our 4th grade classroom. This connection is going to be crucial as we have some tough and necessary conversations regarding the social justice wave that has grown over the summer. Together, with this set of diverse children's literature, we'll navigate our own social justice journeys so that all students feel accepted at school and in our community.
