My Students

I have a diverse group of second graders coming from many different countries. They represent different races, religions, and cultures.

They are eager to learn and easily engaged.

They come to school every day with smiles on their faces and full of wonder. Books are the number one source for them to gain new information and they love to read. Many of my students are brand new to the country. My classroom is their first experience in an American classroom; their first shot at the American dream.

Our school is an urban elementary school. We have a very diverse population. About one-third of our students are English Language learners and half of the students in our school receive free or reduced-rate lunch. Many of the students coming to our school are immigrants.

My Project

The books I've chosen are based on the interests of my students. Every year, the kids in my class are interested and engaged by different things. It's important to me to make sure I have the resources that engage my students in my classroom.

The books in this project were hand picked to meet the interests of my students.

Students in my class self select the books they'd like to read, but those books need to be the "just right" reading level for them. I need to have a variety of titles at different levels to build a love of reading in all of my students.
