I get to teach a great group of students. They are independent problem solvers who love to have fun. In our classroom, students spend the year learning how to take charge of their learning and work to feel responsible for themselves and for their classmates.
Our students are excited and curious about the world and what they can do to make it a better place.
They love hands-on learning and love taking their learning out into the community through service learning projects and project-based learning.
My Project
Every class has its own interests and its own needs when it comes to reading and books. All of the books in this project were requests from my current students. They were requests based on their reading interests and many of them represent books that are continuations of well-loved series in our classroom like Hilo and Dogman.
All of these requested books will become part of our classroom library.
That means that these books will be used for independent reading with this group of students and for years to come. Each day, while I pull small groups of students for a reading group, students do a variety of literacy-based activities. One of the main activities that students do is independent reading. It is crucial to have books that students enjoy, will challenge their thinking, and help them focus on reading. These books will do just that.
