My Students

My first graders have not had the most "normal" schooling experience due to the pandemic, but that did not impact their excitement to learn and grow in their academic and social skills! They are kind, thoughtful, and curious. My students are brave and bold. They are quick to try again until they succeed. They are encouraging and celebrate each other's successes.

My students blow me away every single day with their ideas, questions, and progress!

They are hard workers and have already achieved much success this year. They are understanding and adaptable. They are not afraid to try something new. They constantly remind me of the good that comes from being full of wonder and kind intentions.

My Project

COVID-19 sadly had an impact on how much time students were able to spend in a classroom that provided a wide variety of books to read. Many students were at home and did virtual learning. Their access to books that were interesting to them and on their level was low. These books, which I have selected to enhance my classroom library, will broaden the types of stories, genres, and themes my students will explore in my classroom. My students enjoy reading and they absolutely love sharing what they read with a friend. These stories inspire kindness, growth, and conversations between students. The books I have selected will allow students to choose books not only based on skill level, but also by what interests them.

The books I have selected will further motivate students to enjoy books while also providing them a chance to feel successful in their reading abilities.

In our classroom students love listening to stories, reading with a partner or small group, and reading independently. These leveled books will allow me to differentiate reading instruction and exposure. Students will be able to read these books independently and start to feel good about themselves and what they are reading. My students enjoy reading independently, but these books will expand their interest in reading books by themselves.
