Help me give my students exciting novels they will want to read without struggling. My team and I want to share the love of reading by introducing them to novels they can read with a sense of ease.
My team and I work with 3rd-5th grade students who get extra support in reading. Our students come from a rural area, some of them are English language learners. These 9-12 year olds do not alway enjoy reading.
Fostering a love of reading is one of our main goals for these students.
We are working on reading comprehension skills, and want them to be engaged learners. We want them to learn how to ask questions while reading and summarize a text.
My Project
Using the book Too Many Dogs, my team and I will help students who struggle with reading become avid readers. They will learn to interact with the story to comprehend it and share what they have learned with others. It is our hope these skills will be carried over into the classroom to make them more successful.
The book Killer Flood stirs the imagination and curiosity to start asking questions about this text.
By getting them excited about a book, it becomes easier for them to want to read. In the small group setting they are more comfortable to take the risks to reach their reading goals.
