My students at George Wolf Elementary are immersed in a reading and writing program that affords them the opportunity to read a lot of personally chosen books. In fact, the seven classes of second and third grade have already read 5,442 books this school year. That's a grand total of 22,709,183 words! It's not easy to keep up with such voracious readers!
Excited students approach me in the halls to share their newest book or a love for a new author.
They engage with the characters in their books and make connections to the world around them which is amazing!
My Project
The books requested in this project will find a happy home in our collection of sets to use during book clubs and our annual book tournament. One of these titles could win the top book of the year in 2nd or 3rd grade--which could it be? It will engage all readers in 2nd and 3rd grade with great titles from popular authors. The reading level varies which lets us match kids with books that meet their interests and reading ability.
Donations to this project will make our book tournament a huge success!
Students will be reading at least three titles and be able to compare, rate, and vote on them to choose a top book of the year. Who will win the prestigious title?
