My students need books. One of the most fundamental facts is that children need exposure to books in order to learn. My classroom needs books that are on the students' independent reading level.
ENERGETIC. ACTIVE. PASSIONATE. FUN LOVING. FRIENDLY. Just plain AWESOME! My kindergarten students love learning. From the moment that I met them in various events before school has even started for them, they love learning and reading, even if they don't know what it says.
They love picture books, story books, adventure books, and nonfiction books.
They love all sorts of books.
At my Title I school, books are hard to come by. I have plenty of read alouds that I read to my students, but can they read the books themselves? The answer is no. I ask myself, why. Why do my students have a lack of books for them to read by themselves?
My Project
Having books on my students independent reading level will allow my students read their books independently! This means that they are able to read their books with little to no help.
Having books that the students can read on their own will give my students confidence!
Confidence will boost their morale, and thus, it can only aide in their learning. My students will exude their self-esteem.
Being able to get these books will help my students practice the skills we've learned through whole group teachings. They will be able to decode words that are unknown to them. They will be able to use their phonics skills while reading. They will be able to problem solve to figure out words that they do not know. These books will make a world of a difference with my students!
