Help me give my students access to a variety of books that address social skills, emergent reading, rhyming and mindfulness in the classroom. The books we are requesting are classics and were probably your favorites as a child!
My classroom is in a small community where education is valued and supported by families. My Kindergartners are inquisitive and emergent readers who enjoy retelling stories in their own words.
My class is full of enthusiastic learners who are eager to read and write.
They love recognizing and reading the words they know on their own in their books. They enjoy learning from a variety of texts and stories.
The parents of my students are willing to support and help at home on a daily basis and when extra practice is needed for their child in a given area. We have a goal of reading 20 minutes every night for our students.
My Project
These books will be the books that my students choose daily to read and put in their personal book bin. Most of them are classic books that are timeless and everyone's old favorites! Others help address the social needs of my students and help them learn strategies for getting along with others at school.
The Carrot Seed is ideal for Emergent Readers for retelling the story in their own words.
It is a simple text with a sequential storyline highlighted with character voices perfect for students to retell. The reason we need multiple copies is so that each table of four students has their own copy when practicing their retell skills.
It brings me so much joy during reading time when my readers retell their stories to each other while Partner Reading using their own words and cute character voices! They feel empowered and gain confidence in their reading every day. Books really do help us learn and grow!
