My Students
My students are super smart, and motivated kids who Just want a chance at learning. They come from low-income homes and a of them are ELL’s. Fortunately, they don’t get discouraged in the face of adversity. I love how my students are always trying to expand their English vocabulary, even though their other language may come easier to them. All in all, my students show tremendous progress (speaking English) when they are able to read the language. They also learn the language from hearing and having conversations between their friends. However, they know that, that isn’t enough. Being that my school is fairly new, we don’t have all the resources in the library to help our students like we should. What makes my students special is that they are determined to master this foreign language. They push themselves and when they get good grades the smile on their faces are unexplainable!
My Project
This will only be my second year teaching and I learned a lot from my students last year. One of the things that I learned is, students need a space in my classroom where they can read silently and independently. This project will help me start a classroom library where my students will be able to check out books to use for independent reading. As the school year continues, I’ll add more books to my collection. I just want to give my students an opportunity to read books to foster their love of reading. I am convinced the more they read the English language, the more fluent they’ll become. Above all, that’s the ultimate goal.
