Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a group of 35 fifth and sixth grade students in East San Diego County. My students are resilient and face every challenge they meet head on. They are positive role models who want to make changes in the world for the better. They are kind, generous, and share their hearts with each other and their community.
This year, students will begin their school year in distance learning.
When we return to the classroom, I would love to support my students' reading comprehension by having some novel sets and anchor picture books to use for teaching challenging Language Arts skills and concepts. Since each student will require their own copy, I would like to have a class set ready to go!
My Project
Reading is a key component to student growth! By having novels in students' hands, we can deeply explore complex literary skills and understandings, such as delving into theme.
My goal is for students to have their own copy in hand when they return to school so they can have it at school and at home while learning in a hybrid setting.
Students will have the opportunity to connect and communicate with each other while discussing their novels, which is something they have missed so much during our time away!
The additional picture books will serve as anchor stories to teach the content and ensure that my students are learning at high levels in and out of the classroom!
