This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title one, inner-city school where most of the students are on free or reduced priced lunch. My students are eager kids that desire to be the best that they can be. Although they face some challenges in reading, writing and math, they always try their best to maintain a positive outlook on the task at hand.
My students are energetic, loving students who are excited about school and about learning.
This is a love that I want to continue by enhancing their love of reading through quality text and grade level books.
My Project
I am hoping to get all of the 2018-2019 SLAM and SSYRA books. These titles need to be read to be part of the SLAM contest and having these books in the classroom and accessible to my students will allow my students the opportunity to participate in the event.
Instilling the love of reading is one of my biggest priorities as a reading teacher.
Having these books available to my students in the classroom will give them the opportunity to read for pleasure and to eventually use the knowledge from these books to compete in a district-wide contest.
By the end of the school year, students will use one of these titles to complete an art project or video highlighting their favorite part of the book. It is my hope that these book titles will deepen my students love of reading while helping them get recognized district-wide.
